Norton Lees JFC was formed in 1993 by Karen Shipston and Reg Gregory. Past Chairmen:
The players were Carl Shipston, Kevin Gregory, Grant Parkin, Marc Ward, Lewis Elliott, Mark Dolan, Paul Adams, Scott Lyons and Matthew Tindale.
Once word got round we quickly established 2 teams U8 and U9 who played friendlies the first season. The original committee was Chairman: Pete Clark, Secretary: Karen Shipston, Treasurer: Sue Tindale, U9 Manager: Reg Gregory, Assistant: Karl Tindale, U8 Manager: Dave Shipston, Assistant: Brian Egginton.
The whole ethos of the club was to provide an opportunity for local children to enjoy and learn to play football, no matter what their ability. We first entered the league for 94/95 season with a team in the U9 and U10s.
The following year we added 2 more team, 1 older and 1 younger. We then grew by a team each year. In the clubs infancy we had a competition to design a club badge, this was won by Matthew Tindale and was unchanged for many years. The lads also chose the club strip of black and white.
In 1998 Karens niece Kerry Betson who herself played football for Doncaster Belles was approached by sisters of players asking her to start a girls team. Again history repeated itself and from 3 or 4 players grew to 3 teams at U10, U12 and U14.
The girls u10s were the first NLJFC side to reach a cup final which they narrowly lost 1-0. One memorable event was when the entire club went on a weekend away to Butlins in 1996. 140 people in all. The lads played against other teams and the managers played the dads! A match to remember and a chance for the lads to get their own back, shouting orders from the sidelines!
It has always been a real family club and many friendships were formed and last to this present day.
Other important people who without their dedication help and support NLJFC would not exist today are Alan Parkin, Keith Oakley, Kaz Kontou, John Stocks, Sue Stocks, Julie Ward, Lydia Topham, Dave Baker, Dave Crowder, Paul Crapper, Diane Gregory and Dave Chapman.
